About us

Originally a pop-up by Scott Hallsworth (formally Head Chef of Nobu London & Melbourne and founder of Kurobuta) & Phar Shaweewan (formally with Kurobuta, Nobu & Zuma), Freak Scene started life in Farringdon in July 2017. With a creative arsenal of zesty, unapologetic riff’s on South East Asian & Japanese dishes and heady sake-based cocktails, they packed punters into a tiny room full of Ikea garden furniture and loud indie rock.

Fast forward seven, sake-bomb soaked months and the dynamic duo were selling their beloved plastic tables and stools, washing off the toilet grafitti and heading to Frith St in Soho to get set for a one year, which turned into a two year, residency in the former home of the legendary Barrafina. With some proper cooking equipment (Scott and team blazed the pop-up using portable camp stoves), a bar, better seats and a much bigger screen to project the hilarious Takeshi’s Castle, Freak Scene was rocking with the Marshall’s red-lining on 11!
